Comic book "TakeTwo" (European Commission)

Produced at the request of the European Commission (European Social Fund), "Take Two" was conceived and written by Rudi Miel for Qwentes.
This comic book illustrates the role of the European Social Fund through the story or four individuals having problems in their professional life.
"Take Two" presents four slices of life based on true stories, illustrated in four sets of 12 sheets of drawings by Durieux, Gihef, Savoia and Vanyda.
It takes the form of a graphic novel that tells how a specific meeting triggers a process that enables the four protagonists to make a new start in life with the support of the European Social Fund. Initially available only in French (soft cover version), the comic book is being translated into all the official languages of the European Union.

« Next Station »

Eurogare is a consulting firm specialised in railway and architectural projects. One of its recent achievements is the construction of the Liege-Guillemins train station designed by Calatrava. For an international event in Brussels that brought together Europe's top railway sector players, LET IT BEE produced via CHRISCOM agency a 40-page soft-cover comic book entitled "Next Station", in a record time of only three weeks. Based on a scenario by Rudi Miel, with drawings by Maud Millecamps and colours by Bruno Wesel, this pictures-only story takes place in three acts and an epilogue and is staged in the train stations of Liege, Namur and the future Mons station (also designed by Calatrava). The choice of a wordless story was made for reasons of timing and efficiency. The time saved on translations, lettering and production made it possible to meet an extremely tight deadline. Chriscom was responsible for production and layout, including a documentation packet on Eurogare's activities, based on the highest quality standards for both the mock-up and the choice of paper and binding.

« Jump Start »

Established more than 50 years ago, the European Social Fund (ESF) is the Union's key financial instrument supporting employment through a wide range of public and private bodies. The ESF allocates 10 billion euros a year to projects in the 27 Member States. This investment improves the daily lives of some 10 million people every year, helping them to find a job and to advance in their career with new skills. "Jump Start", a new comic book published a year after "Take Two", focuses once again on four characters whose stories are inspired by real events. It is based on a scenario by Rudi Miel with the collaboration of Jean-Luc Cornette (drawings by Maud Millecamps, Alex Tefenkgi, Vanyda and You). "Jump Start" tells how Alex, Nataline, Ivana and Dimitra managed to change their lives through support from the European Social Fund. Following on from a first album distributed in more than 110,000 copies in 23 languages, "Jump Start" also seems destined for wide distribution. Nearly 70,000 copies have already been ordered since it became available in spring 2011.

Comic book: "Troubled waters" (European Parliament)

"Troubled Waters", a comic book drawn by Dominique David with a script by Cristina Cuadra and Rudi Miel, presents the role and functioning of the European Parliament through the activity of one of its members.
The story uses all the traditional ingredients of a detective novel to illustrate the procedure in the European Parliament that ended with the adoption of a resolution on water policy, on 7 September 2000. Structured like a thriller, bit by bit it unveils the educational information that plays a real role in the overall understanding of the story and its developments.
Published in December 2002 by the European Parliament, the comic book was translated into more than 25 languages. Over two million copies have been distributed. "Troubled Waters" won the Alph-Art Communication award at the 2003 Angoulême Comics Festival.

BROCHURE: "Exploring europe" (European Commission)

Published in 1996 by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Information, the brochure "Let's Explore Europe" aims to create awareness among children of the wealth represented by the cultural differences of the countries that make up today's Europe.
The approach is innovative: clichés of all kinds connected with the Member States make up the common theme of the brochure… Using a playful but educational tone, the theme is illustrated by the travels from place to place of a couple, created by Will and Rudi Miel, Several hundred thousand copies of the brochure were printed and distributed in the Member States.

FILM: "Jumping the climate change hurdle" (CEFIC)

Produced at the request of CEFIC (the European Chemical  Industry Council), the animated film "Jumping the Climate Change Hurdle", illustrated by Jean-Luc Cornette on a script by Rudi Miel, is meant to increase European policy-makers' awareness of the effort made by the  chemicals industry to combat climate change, in terms of both limiting CO2 emissions and researching and developing new more environmentally acceptable products.
The film also aims to promote benchmarking, rather than auctioning, as a tool for calculating the CO2 emissions allowances allocated to enterprises.
"Jumping the Climate Change Hurdle" was shown on YouTube and distributed to Members of the European Parliament and different political figures.

CALENDAR: "Creative technology" (Citroën)

For over 20 years, Citroën Belux has published a comics calendar that is distributed by its dealers to their customers. The firm's vehicles are depicted by well known comic authors based on a new theme every year. Rudi Miel has served as art director and coordinator since 2006 for CHRISCOM Agency, which handles the calendar's design and production. Many authors have participated in the initiative, including Dany ("Histoire sans Héros"), Jigounov ("Alpha"), Ralph Meyer ("XIII Mystery") and Gihef ("Haute Sécurité"), who have each produced three illustrations for the 2010 calendar.
